Public Relations as a field of knowledge has evolved constantly. The meaning of PR has been changing across different societies and cultures. It was time when PR was a purely press agentry, then communication tool. Now PR is a strategic management function. Those changes were determined by certain socio-cultural factors and specific influences in academic sphere across the countries. For instance, the impact of psychoanalysis on PR was significant and fueled by the mass consumption in the beginning of 20th century in the US. Today contemporary society is characterized as “participatory culture” that is totally an opposite social phenomena to that one taken place a century ago.

Topic of report: New media users and social interaction in the everyday life

The scenario is one University class in any place around the world. We can suppose that the students are everyone taking attention to the lecturer, but this is not the true. Against the norms, some of them are sending and receiving SMS or are reading their account on a social media through their mobile phones. What about them? Are they so interested in virtual communication for entertainment? Are they so urgently needed to interact with their contacts? Do they fear losing their online relationships for not responding right away?
