New Media on The Internet
The group of the invited specialists in semiotics, architecture and art from Berlin shares their knowledge with Tomsk students, and the Department of Social Communications continues to show them the cultural heritage of Tomsk.

During this week German scientists have lectured at the Studio of New Media Technologies in the media-holding «Reclamny Digest».

Roland Posner (Honorary Professor of the Technical University of Berlin (TUB), the director of the Center for Semiotics) and Vessela Grigorieva-Posner (Doctor of Museology and History of Art, professional artist and supervisor of art exhibitions, staff member of the Berlin Gallery) have already given lectures. The audiences, attending the lectures on 4 and 5 March, listened to Professor Posner and learned about the basics of image perception by signs, and the way the signs of numbers have changed together with the human consciousness throughout the history.

The lecture «Semiotic Analysis of Multimedia Art» given by Vessela Grigorieva-Posner was based on the lessons of Kandinsky and Greimas and generated a lively discussion among the audience. The lecture was presented to the audience in Russian which made it easier to understand the information.

The cultural program, prepared for the Berlin visitors, is full of different events and excursions showing the unique Tomsk places which can be of interest for the German scientists.

Together with Irina Kuzheleva-Sagan and the staff of the Department of Social Communications, Roland Posner, Joerg Gleiter and Vessela Grigorieva-Posner have already seen the historical and cultural heritage of Tomsk and Siberia, visiting the place where Tomsk was founded, and the Museum of History of Tomsk. The group saw permanent and temporary exhibitions of the museum, including «First Century of Tomsk», «Tomsk Panorama of First Quarter of 20th century», «Merchant Living Room» and an open observation deck, which offers a magnificent view of the city.

Russian-German House is another monument of architecture that deserves special attention. In the past the housed was owned by merchant Golovanov. The employees of the cultural institution were happy to welcome the German visitors.

As part of the cultural program the German scientists have also visited the museum complex of the Tomsk State University. The guests from Berlin have already been in the Zoological Museum, which contains more than 800 exhibits of birds, mammals and invertebrates, and the Department of Rare Books of the Research Library, containing extremely valuable volumes.

The program, full of official and informal events, also has some time for relaxation. In order to relax both mentally and physically, the guests were invited to the concert at the Organ Hall of the State Philharmony of the Tomsk Region that combines pleasant interior with excellent acoustics.

In the remaining few days Berlin guests will visit the Museum of NKVD, the Siberian Botanical Garden and the unique theatre of “living” dolls «Two-plus-Ku», created by Vladimir Zakharov. We hope that the weeklong program of German scientists’ visit of Tomsk will create a holistic and favorable impression about the town and put together all the elements of the «urban puzzle», the guests compare the educational center of Siberia with, together.
