Tomsk-Berlin Cooperation Week in Full Pay

The group of the invited specialists in semiotics, architecture and art from Berlin shares their knowledge with Tomsk students, and the Department of Social Communications continues to show them the cultural heritage of Tomsk.

During this week German scientists have lectured at the Studio of New Media Technologies in the media-holding «Reclamny Digest».

Roland Posner (Honorary Professor of the Technical University of Berlin (TUB), the director of the Center for Semiotics) and Vessela Grigorieva-Posner (Doctor of Museology and History of Art, professional artist and supervisor of art exhibitions, staff member of the Berlin Gallery) have already given lectures. The audiences, attending the lectures on 4 and 5 March, listened to Professor Posner and learned about the basics of image perception by signs, and the way the signs of numbers have changed together with the human consciousness throughout the history.

The lecture «Semiotic Analysis of Multimedia Art» given by Vessela Grigorieva-Posner was based on the lessons of Kandinsky and Greimas and generated a lively discussion among the audience. The lecture was presented to the audience in Russian which made it easier to understand the information.

The exclusive video-lectures of the prominent experts from Germany will be available in free access on the YouTube-channel of the Department of Social Communications.

Return Visit: First News

During the first day of the Tomsk program the experts from Germany had a tour around the National Research Tomsk State University. In anticipation of the forthcoming press conference and round-table discussion German guests got acquainted with the history and sights of TSU. Together with the Head of the Department of Social Communications, Professor Irina Kuzheleva-Sagan they visited the Zoological Museum of the TSU and the Laboratory for Cognitive Studies and Psychogenetics on the basis of the Faculty of Psychology, the place where the press conference was held. During the conference, the visiting scientists shared their impressions about the city, talked about the interconnections between architecture, social communications and semiotics.
For the guests from Germany Tomsk became the first visited city in Russia. «Tomsk seemed to me a kind of urban «puzzle», whose elements are to be combined into one unit» — said Doctor of Museology and Art History Vesela Grigorieva-Posner speaking about the town. The invited experts were impressed by the cultural heritage of Tomsk. They noted that after exploring the city the mood and hopes of productive cooperation with the Department of Social Communications became stronger.

Department of Social Communications Receives Foreign Guests!

On 2 March a group of experts from Germany — Roland Posner, Joerg Gleiter and Vessela Grigorieva-Posner — arrived in Tomsk. The quests had a tour around the town and enjoyed the good weather. That day the town was seeing the winter off holding the traditional festivities — Maslenitsa.

On Monday the guests from Berlin had a special program: a press conference, a round table and, of course, a tour around the Tomsk State University.

At the press conference the guests spoke about their first impressions of Tomsk as a university town and the «capital of the Festival of Russian Design 2014», as well as about the contemporary approaches to creating the appearance of the town and the university campus in the context of information and communication society.

«The Relevance of Semiotic Approach in Modern Information and Communication Society» was the central issue for discussion during the roundtable. Professor Irina Kuzheleva-Sagan, Head of the Department of Social Communications, the teachers and the students of the department took part in the roundtable.

The principal events of the first day of the Tomsk visit program were held at the conference hall of the 4th building of TSU.

The Department of Social Communication of the leading National Research Tomsk State University receives the group of specialists from Germany whose professional and scientific interests are somehow connected with the problems of urban environment visualization.

Among the guests there will be: Roland Posner — Professor Emeritus of the Technical University Berlin (TUB), the director of the Center for Semiotics; Joerg Gleiter – Professor, the head of the Department of Theory and History of Architecture (TUB); Vessela Grigorieva-Posner – Doctor of Museology and History of Art, professional artist and supervisor of several art expositions, member of staff at the Berlin Gallery. The guests will spend the week of March 3 to March 9 in Tomsk. The program of the visit will be very intense: lectures, master-classes, public discussions will be held in collaboration with the Department of Social Communication.

The Flew Over The “Cloud-Cuckoo-Land”

News
International scientific journal “Cloud-Cuckoo-Land” is an established German Internet edition. Its special issue in April, 2014 will be dedicated to the theme of the conference “Architecture and Social Media in the Network Society” which took place in the Technical University Berlin in October, 2013. The Department of Social Communication TSU was the partner of the event, all the participants’ papers will be published and posted online (ссылка на английский).

The editorial board of the journal made a decision also to develop the Russian version of the edition and invited the representative of the Department of Social Communication – Snezhana Nosova (senior lecturer) – to be member of the editorial office, responsible for Russian language editing.
